Yes, only a few so far, but not for lack of what to write about. I keep collecting information on children, young families and debt. The big picture is that there has been a sharp increase in the costs associated with children- and people are financing it with debt. Some of the debt goes directly onto the heads of the children themselves.

One barrier to getting more cooperation and interest in the issue is the way it cuts so profoundly into people's conceptions of what women should be doing. Should women be forced to take on debt as some sort of moral punishment for sex? Should poor women be able to have children at all? On the surface these issues sound ridiculous. Who could possibly be against sex or pro-debt? Well, as it turns out, lots people... not just a bunch of uptight right wing religious kooks. As I've gone out and put some of my more controversial ideas about debt and childbearing forward, even some very leftist people have gotten antsy.

My off the wall opinions don't come from nowhere: they come from my own lived experience. I decided I'd open up another page, the SEX page to cover some of this stuff. Here's to a future where sex and reproduction have gotten an amicable divorce; not from each other, but from debt!
